Aqua Finesse Update

Just wanted to provide a quick update on the Aqua Finesse treatment.

After about 3 weeks, I noticed a signifcant improvement in the feel of the water and the reduction of chlorine required.  Before using the Aqua Finesse product my pool seemed to need to get chlorine shocked to  bring up the chlorine levels.  Since introducing Aqua Finesse I have been able to maintain and perfect chlorine level without chlorine shock.  I still routinely do an oxidizer treatment every 2 weeks.  Additionally, every 2 weeks I have been using some rinse agent for the filter since this was recommended by Aqua Finesse as well.  At this point my chemical spend is down significantly, but will confirm at the end of August for exact $$$’s

Hubspot Update

It has been a little while since my last post about the Hubspot product/service that we have decided to move ahead with on a software startup.  At this point the benefits are real, we have noticed a significant increase in quality of traffic including new leads to help support the business.  There are some leads that I wouldn’t directly attribute to Hubspot, but probably a balance between our existing knowlege of SEO, plus the advantages that Hubspot brings to the table.  In the Hubspot solution, I really enjoy the prospects section, whereby the software lets you know who has visited the website and what their flow through the website looks like.  I know from experience I can do almost the same thing in Google Analytics, but the flow and ease of use that Hubspot applies seems to be much more user friendly for not only me but my clients as well.

The SEO expert that has been assigned to our account has been extremely helpful, especially when it comes to questions we might have about certain specific SEO issues.

One issue I would like to point out, at this point it doesn’t seem that the Hubspot solution does a great job at is identifying regional searching seo.  Since Hubspot is located in the USA, it doesn’t appear to pull back the search results that our Canadian customers are looking for.  In one example, some terms Hubspot explains that we are ranked number 1 or 2, but in fact if the term is searched from any canadian, or ontario browser we appear 8 or 10.  In my experience, this seems to be a regional search issue which I believe Hubspot is looking into.

More reviews to come in the next 2-4 weeks.

Aqua Finesse Pool – Day 1

Since I have previous experience with using the Aqua Finesse product on my hot tub in my previous home, I thought I would give the Aqua Finesse Pool product a try.  One of the local dealers here was kind enough to provide me with a sample kit for me to try on my pool.

This is day 1 of the treatment and should take about 1 month before seeing/feeling better water.  I will try and take several pictures once a week to see if there are any visual differences with the pool.  I’m going to keep a close eye on the chemical usage and balance since this product is supposed to significantly reduce the amount of chemical spend on any pool.

Innovation in Canada – SR&ED is world class

The Canadian SR&ED (Scientific Research & Experimental Development) program is a world class innovation program that offers funding for organizations of all sizes that include innovation as a part of their daily business activities.  As per definition by CRA (http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/sred/) “The SR&ED program is a federal tax incentive program, administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), that encourages Canadian businesses of all sizes, and in all sectors to conduct research and development (R&D) in Canada. It is the largest single source of federal government support for industrial R&D.”

One consistent issue related to applying for SR&ED funds is the ability to track and measure innovation properly.  More importantly, the CRA is looking for new requirements on documentation starting July 1st 2010.  More information on these requirements can be found on the Precision SR&ED website http://www.precisionsred.com/blog/cra-enforcing-stricter-policies-for-sred-claims

Since working with Precision SR&ED we have been able to work with new clients and consultants to further define what documentation and reporting is helpful and how to smooth the audit process.  In most cases the CRA will require an audit on the first SR&ED application.  This is exactly why SR&ED software like Precision SR&ED is so valuable in making sure that all the details are collected and to minimize risks associated with audits.

Innovation will continue to be a big part of the new economy, and will help the businesses that innovate lead during the pending economic recovery.

What have been your experiences with the CRA and the audit process?  What would you information would you like to track?

Green Building Show Day 1

I will be attending and exhibiting at the Green Building Show 2010.  The show is an online event that anyone can join for free.  The show includes an exhibit, speakers and networking events for those that are interested in green building topics.

From Green Building Pro

“GB Expo 2010 is the grand opening of an online, interactive environment where green building professionals, educators and vendors will meet in a virtual “city” to learn, network, and collaborate in a real-time environment. Our previous conferences have opened the virtual doors to over 10,000 online attendees from over 90 countries worldwide.”

Parachute Software will be at a booth for the show and Dave Linton will provide an in depth presentation discussing how to simplify efficiency programs that the utilities and power providers provide consumers.  “Incentive programs like the proposed “Cash for Caulkers” have the dual benefit of reducing harmful emissions into the environment and stimulating the economy.  While a lot of tax-payer money is going into programs like this, it can be debated that the overall benefit far outweighs the cost.  While these programs are incenting individuals and businesses to become more energy efficient, it’s important to consider how efficient the programs are themselves.”

Register for the presentation: http://www.greenbuildingpro.com/gb-expo-day-2-simplifying-energy-efficiency-incentive-programs-through-technology.html

Register for the event: http://www.greenbuildingpro.com/green-building-expo-2010.html

I will be at the booth answering questions about Parachute Software from 11am-6pm EDT

My independent review of the show will be posted at the end of the week
